NEW! Biophysical Economics now has it own, dedicated, peer-reviewed journal!

berqPublished by Springer, BioPhysical Economics and Resource Quality (BERQ) publishes research and commentary exploring the energy and materials basis of the economic process, including the effects of natural resource quantity and quality on economies, sustainability, and human well-being. The journal encourages new approaches to economic analysis arising from a convergence of ideas and concepts from the natural and physical sciences, such as finite resources, renewable resources, and resource quality, with the social, behavioral, and institutional aspects of economics.

With an emphasis on empirical and systems-oriented studies and models, BERQ:

  • Explores systemic connections and dynamic interactions among energy, food, water, and other resources
  • Examines the relationship of resource quantity and quality with markets, economic growth, urban sustainability, and technological change
  • Promotes an integrated approach to the global challenges of human well-being and sustainability

The journal provides scientists, economists, partners in industry, and policy makers with objective, multidisciplinary research and commentary on these critical issues.

BERQ is edited by Ugo Bardi, Gaël Giraud, and Charles A.S. Hall. The journal’s Managing Editor is Michael Carbajales-Dale.

Access to all BERQ articles published in 2016 and 2017 is free. Submissions are welcome.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of scientific and academic articles and papers relevant to the field of biophysical economics. These articles are not all dedicated to biophysical economics as such, though, and their authors are not all associated with the biophysical economics line of thought. All however provide information or data on how the flows of energy and matter shape and are shaped by the economy’s structures and evolutions, and therefore contribute to a biophysical reading of the economic process as well as of past and ongoing economic trends and developments. Most of these articles are peer-reviewed papers published in authoritative academic and scientific journals – including, since 2016, in Biophysical Economics’ dedicated, peer-reviewed journal, BioPhysical Economics and Resource Quality (BERQ). Some relevant ‘working papers’ (i.e. unpublished) are however also included in the list. These articles are presented here for information purposes only. BiophysEco does not necessarily support or endorse the views expressed by their authors.

Please note that this list of articles is a constant work in progress. The list is continuously being updated and completed, so please check it regularly for updates.
